When it comes to a county or city being known for something, sex offenders are not a wanted claim to fame, unfortunately, Potter County which is home to Amarillo, Texas is the top county in Texas when it comes to registered sex offenders.

In 2022, Potter County had 665 registered sex offenders, according to Only in Your State.  This made Potter County the county with the most sex offenders in Texas.   Unfortunately, this hasn't changed much in the last year.

The National Sex Offender Public Website, Potter County currently has 751 registered sex offenders as of January 15, 2024.   Homefacts says Potter County has 704 registered sex offenders, and City Data shows that 857 registered sex offenders live in both Pottery County and Randall County.

That is Too Many Sex Offenders

The number of sex offenders in Potter County has grown in the last year, and unless another county in Texas had the same growth and more, Potter County still leads for the most registered sex offenders in Texas.    

If you look at the data and break it down, the ratio of all residents to sex offenders in Amarillo is 231 to 1.  That's too many for Amarillo, and that's too many for anywhere.

Safe Home claims that Texas has over 100,000 registered sex offenders, making that the largest number in the county with California in second with 62,000.
