Amarillo has its share of  "cursed" buildings, and this particular location has carried a curse since it was built. However, with a new business set to move in, there's hope that this long-standing curse will finally be broken, ushering in a fresh start for the site.

The location is 4606 SW 45th.  This building was built originally to be a convenience store, but unfortunately over the last almost 7 years, nothing has stuck in this location.

Now this building is becoming something new.

Over the last few months, things have been buzzing around the building.  First, the Joaquin's signs went down.  Cars were parked in front of the building, and a banner was thrown up in the window.

In recent weeks, changes have been happening at this location. A new sign was installed on the awning, and the main sign now shows the new business. Additionally, a liquor license was officially secured from the TABC on December 30, 2024, granting the business the legal ability to sell alcohol.

Now we just wait for the Open sign to light up!

Amarillo is home to over 25 liquor stores, not including the numerous stores that sell beer and wine. With the opening of this new location, the total will rise to eight liquor stores within a 2-mile radius.

Residents in the Western Plateau and Ridgecrest areas will now enjoy the convenience of a closer option to shop for their favorite spirits, making this a potentially popular addition to the neighborhood.

As mentioned above, we’re hopeful this new business will finally break the curse of this building. It’s about time something not only survives but thrives in this location. Total Liquor could be the one to put an end to the streak of misfortune. Only time will tell, but it could be promising.

Why Do You Say This Building is Cursed?

For years, this spot was home to Dutch Girl Cleaners, until it tragically burned down. In 2017, construction began at the location, signaling the arrival of something new and exciting to take its place. The change marked the beginning of a fresh chapter for this well-known site.
