You Won’t Believe How Many Interstates Texas Has
Texas, as a state, is the 2nd largest but the #3 state, (California), has us beat by 2 when it comes to the number of interstate highways.
Texas has a ton of highways but when it comes to interstate highways, there are only a few. Still though, Texas has almost the most in the entire country, second only to Caly.
We get pretty extreme with ours though having one so long it will take you about 11 hours to drive it end to end and another that may be the shortest interstate in the USA.
Construction of the USA's interstate highway system, often referred to as the greatest public works project in history, began in the mid 1950's when then POTUS Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956.
The stretch of I-10 running through El Paso wouldn't be completed until 1968.
How Many Interstates Are There?
There are a ton of interstates in the USA. The state with the most of them is California followed closely by the lone star state in 2nd place. Final Score: Cali 27, Texas 25. Texas and Cali ... along with Arizona and New Mexico ... share interstate 10 which also travels through every other state along the southern edge of the USA.
