Jodie Foster Returns to ‘Silence of the Lambs’ in New ‘Colbert’ Sketch
We’re out here waiting for new Hannibal, and Stephen Colbert brings back the OG Silence of the Lambs. Watch Jodie Foster return to her most iconic role, as a new Late Show sketch sees Clarice Starling confront a familiar face regarding the Trump/Russia investigation.
Friday’s Late Show With Stephen Colbert saw actor-director Foster back in her Academy Award-winning role as FBI trainee Clarice Starling, accent and all. Colbert himself naturally filled in as Anthony Hopkins’ Hannibal Lecter, as Clarice tries to solicit information regarding Robert Mueller’s investigation of the 2016 election:
Lest we forget, this is the first time Foster has returned to her Silence of the Lambs character in quite some time. Julianne Moore took over the part for 2001’s Hannibal film, while the character was only referenced in Brett Ratner’s 2002 Red Dragon remake. Were NBC’s Hannibal ever to secure the rights to Silence of the Lambs and Clarice Starling, creator Bryan Fuller indicated the likelihood of casting Clarice as a young woman of color.
It’s quite a trip to see Foster back in the role, but don’t expect a full return anytime soon. The acclaimed actress keeps busy with directing these days, and even helmed one of the upcoming installments of Black Mirror.
