Just a Heads Up Amarillo Police Department Will Never Send Threats
So because this is a thing we do have to warn everyone. The worst part is this is involving the violent crimes detectives. So I figure most people would be aware if they were involved in a violent crime or not.
But when you are being threatened you just want the threats to end. I get that .According to Amarillo Police Department this is how the scam works:
The scammer is sending text messages using actual photos and crime numbers from the Amarillo Police department social media and website. With this information, the scammer is making threats to arrest the victims if they don’t pay money for crimes they didn’t commit. The scammer is saying they are Amarillo Officers and that the photo is of them, and the stats are their arrest numbers and crimes solved.
So even though they know they are not apart of these crimes it can still be intimidating. Just know that Amarillo Police Department will never call and threaten anyone. So know that this is a scam.

The Amarillo Police Department says when in doubt pick up the phone and call. That is the best way to avoid being scammed.
The Amarillo Police Department is here to educate everyone:
We also have a podcast talking about scams, and what to watch out for, what to do if you get scammed, and how to protect yourself.
