UPDATE as of July 23, 2022: Pepi Osmani, owner and manager of Grill Italia responded to our requests for comment, saying he had returned overseas to attend to a family emergency. According to Osmani, the closure is temporary and he in the process of resolving the issues.

Osmani adds that upon his return, he will be hosting a grand opening for Grill Italia and that all are welcome to attend.

Amarillo's newest Italian restaurant, Grill Italia, has announced that they would be closing their doors due to "unforeseen circumstances until further notice."

Branding themselves as a modern Italian restaurant serving Bespoke cocktails, the restaurant had set up shop in the old BL Bistro at 2203 S. Austin. Their soft opening was launched on February 9th. Since then, a steady flow of praise, complaints, commendations, and accusations have continued to build up around the self proclaimed New York import.

We reached out to the restaurant to confirm news of their closing but have yet to receive a response. The announcement on their Instagram story was posted some time after our request for comment was made.

According to an employee, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the staff of Grill Italia has yet to be paid and alleges that their closing was ordered by the state comptroller.

"The account our checks were drawn from is still empty," the employee said. "He could have stayed open if he would have paid his taxes. We didn't even get our credit card tips."

The employee went on to state that the restaurant manager, Pepi Osmani, had left the country at the same time as the restaurant was closed and had not spoken with the staff about recent events.

"Now I'm about to lose everything," the employee states. "My rent and all my bills.....I worked for free."

The website for Grill Italia shows no details as of today. Records pulled from the Secretary of State show that the individual agent that Grill Italia, LLC is registered with to be Rexhep Osmani.

Repeated attempts to contact the restaurant have been made and and update will be provided if a response is received.
