Update: The Trails In Texas Panhandle’s Palo Duro Canyon Are Closed…Again
The only way to describe the feeling we had this morning was whiplash. While celebrating the news that the trails in Palo Duro Canyon were declared open, we saw a new park alert issued by the Palo Duro Canyon State Park. The alert was exactly what we've come to expect this summer.
We're Done Keeping Up With The Trails At Palo Duro Canyon
Hanging out at Palo Duro Canyon State Park is one of my favorite things to do in the Texas panhandle. There's plenty to do, and the views are breathtaking. It's a magnificent place that we're lucky to call our own. At this point, though, it's beginning to feel like an emotionally abusive on-again-off-again relationship.
We've seen a lot of alerts this year from the park regarding the trails. It seems like every time it rains we see trails being closed. It's all for good reason. Closing the trails after heavy rain protects us and it protects the trails from further erosion. It's a necessity. The problem is that just when the trails are declared open, it rains again, and they're closed again.
I'm done trying to keep up with the trails in the canyon.
Trails Declared Closed Again To Rains Received In The Canyon
Unfortunately, recent rains at the canyon have resulted in the closure of all trails. It's a bummer, and if anyone is to blame for the constant back and forth, it's Mother Nature. The park staff is great and they work hard to make sure everyone enjoys their time in the canyon. Mother Nature is the one that's literally raining on everyone's parade.
The best thing to do is check the park's website before you make the trip down into the canyon to see if there are any closures. You can find their website and any park alerts by following this link. Not only do you need to think about the rain, but you also need to take the heat into account. Trails can also be closed because of the temperature.
Keep up with Palo Duro Canyon State Park on social media and their website, and the moment the trails are open go and enjoy them while you can.
