Plants In Amarillo Heat? Here’s A Few That Survive Year Round.
As the winter starts to thaw out, and spring enters the picture, you see the plants and flowers begin to arrive.
You hit up greenhouses, local growers, hardware stores, basically anyone that has potables you can put into the ground and make the yard look nice for the season.

However, you have to think about what will survive the crazy West Texas heat? Just because something looks pretty in the spring, doesn't mean it will withstand and survive the summer.
So when choosing your plants and flowers for the season, you have to choose wisely. Plan for the summer heat and take a look at some of these plants in order to keep them alive as the temps hit over 100.
CORA XDR VINCA
A beautiful plant that will bloom some very vibrant flowers on them. These plants are designed to withstand some pretty high temperatures due to their genetics. XDR stands for extreme disease resistance, and because they have a higher resistance to drought and diseases, they make for a perfect plant for the region.
PENTAS
These are some absolutely beautiful plants. Growing into star-shaped flowers, they vibrantly bloom in many colors. Different shades of red, pink, purple, and more, they're sure to be a talking point as your neighbors and friends see them. They are a native of Africa and other hot regions, so you know they'll withstand the heat here. For best results, plant these in container gardens or flowerbeds.
CONEFLOWER
These bloom into a flower that appears to resemble a sunflower in many ways. The color and shape will immediately make you think of them, and they are also a great way to attract butterflies, bees, and birds. If you're looking for something that is a quick grower (maybe you got a late start this year),. the coneflower is definitely the way to go.
There are several others you can look into that withstand the West Texas heat, and you can read about them (and the ones above) here!
