According to our news partners at KAMR Local 4, the air traffic control tower at Rick Husband International Airport had to be evacuated on Wednesday afternoon due to high winds. There is visible damage to the outside of the tower but no word yet on any structural damage to the structure. Attempts to reach air traffic control personnel was unsuccessful due to the evacuation. Southwest flights have been cancelled and no word on the other airlines that service Amarillo. We will pass along more information from officials as it becomes available.
