Early this morning (October 24, 2016), APD was led on a chase that resulted in four suspects being taken into custody, one of whom was shot.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, an officer attempted to pull a vehicle over for a traffic violation at 3rd and Rusk around 6:15 a.m. The vehicle did not stop. Police followed the suspects west on I-40 toward Vega until the vehicle's tires were shredded by spike strips at the New Mexico state line.

During the chase, there were three different reports of gun shots fired from the vehicle. At around 6:51 a.m., the vehicle stopped on the highway and gunfire was exchanged. The suspects took off again and the chase continued. After the tires were shredded at the New Mexico state line, shots were fired from the driver's side of the vehicle. At 7 a.m., when the vehicle finally stopped, gunfire was exchanged again. This time, one of the suspects was injured.

Thanks to the efforts between the Amarillo Police Department, Oldham County Sheriff's Office, and New Mexico State Police, the suspects were stopped and put into custody. The suspect who was injured will receive medical care.

At this time, it is unknown who the shooter was or if there was more than one shooter. None of the suspects' information has been released.
