As I'm writing this, rain has started falling again in Amarillo. Thunder is rolling. The sky is dark. It's a sight we're all too familiar with at the moment. We've already seen some cancellations and postponements because of it. Another was just announced.

There's some good and bad news when it comes to events at Hodgetown tonight (6/2/23).

First, The Good News About Sod Poodles Baseball

Tonight, as far as weather and downtown Amarillo are concerned, there's good news when it comes to Sod Poodles baseball. An announcement was made earlier that tonight's game will continue as scheduled.

Also, tonight's Friday night fireworks show will go on as scheduled.

This is great news if you were hoping to head out to Hodgetown tonight for a game. The team will be wearing their commemorative Route 66 themed jerseys .

Speaking of Route 66...

The Bad News Is For The Route 66 Celebration At Hodgetown

Because of the weather we're expecting this afternoon going into this evening, the decision has been made to postpone tonight's Route 66 Celebration activities at Hodgetown.

That includes the block party and jersey auction.

However, it isn't all bad news. It's just postponed. That means that at a later date, we'll get to have the events we were looking forward to that Mother Nature put the kibosh on.

The most important thing is that everyone stays safe. We've been in and out of flood warnings thanks to all of the recent rain we've had. If you do plan on getting out this weekend to soak up some Amarillo style entertainment, do it safely.

Fingers crossed this won't be a theme during the Route 66 Celebration this year. There are a lot of events planned, and I would hate to see more of them postponed or cancelled because of the insane amount of rain we've been getting.

Look at How Amarillo's Old Route 66 Motels Looked Then & Now

The heyday of the Mother Road may be long gone, but would you believe that there's still plenty of the old motels where many a weary American family rested their heads during their interstate travels?

You won't believe some of these are still standing, much less still alive and (wait for it..) kickin'!
