Amarillo is on a start to beat out 2021 for shootings and also deaths by shootings. Another shooting occurred, which included one death.

This shooting occurred in the early morning hours of January 28th in the 2100 block of Dallas Street and also on South Grand.

When Amarillo Police responded to the call on South Grand they were made aware that there were multiple shooting victims at two different locations.  When arriving on Dallas Street, the APD found Brandi Padilla, 38-year-old female.  She was taken to a local hospital and later died.   APD then found a 36-year-old male on South Grand.  He was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting suspect, 48-year-old Douglas Voigt, left the scene after the shootings, but the police were able to locate him near 22nd and Osage.  He was arrested and booked at the Potter County Jail.  He is accused of Murder.   The APD Homicide Unit will continue to investigate.

This makes the second homicide death in a week and the second in 2022.  The first homicide of 2022 occurred on Tuesday, January 25th, when police found Jeremie Ray Gomez dead of an apparent gunshot wound.  They are still looking for the suspect in his death.

What is happening Amarillo?

Why do people let arguments escalate into deadly violence.  Is that the first thing that pops into people's heads these days?  "This person made me mad so I'm going to shoot them."    Do people not stop and think before resorting to violence.  Number 1 you are taking a life, number 2 you will get caught and you will go to jail.

Take a breath, think, and walk away.
