Take a Trek into Palo Duro Canyon this Week for Some Fun Events and Hiking
We have one of the greatest natural wonders right in our backyard. It's Palo Duro Canyon and if you haven't been in awhile or been at all, then make plans to head on down and have some outdoor fun.
If you are looking to make the most of your visit, here are a few fun events coming up this week.
Friday, June 23rd
A.M. Birding Walk
7:30am-9am
Chinaberry day use area
If you have a fascination for birds then you definitely want to make plans to take this amazing walk in the canyon. The park staff will take you on an easy walk and you'll learn about some of the most amazing wild birds that call the canyon home.
Dress for the weather and wear good shoes that are good for walking and hiking and bring plenty of water. If you have binoculars or bird guides bring them with you.
Saturday, June 24th
Canyon Driving Tour
4p-5:30p
Meet at the gatehouse.
Enjoy this scenic driving tour of PDC. Learn about all the flora, fauna, geology and history all in the comfort of a vehicle.
This tour is limited and available to the first 14 people who sign up. A signup sheet is located at the gatehouse of the canyon.
Atlatl in the Evening
7-9pm
Park headquarters
The atlatl was the main hunting weapon used all over the world for thousands of years. If you are curious about this tool and want to learn how it was used, then make plans to come to the Canyon and learn. You'll get a chance to use one.
Dress for the weather and wear good shoes and bring plenty of water. This is an outdoor event so make sure you bring sunscreen, hats and sunglasses if you choose.
Fees for these programs are free however you have to pay to enter the canyon. Cost is $5 per person, kids 12 and under free.
