Exciting Adventures Await: Texas Planning 5 New State Parks
We're spoiled in Texas when it comes to the number and types of places you can enjoy the great outdoors. We have beautiful canyons, tons of beaches, plenty of rivers, and even forests and deserts. With how much we love the outdoors in the Lone Star State, and how much of it is out there, it should come as no surprise that Texas Parks & Wildlife is planning on adding 5 new state parks.
Palo Pinto Mountains State Park
Palo Pinto Mountains State Park is currently under construction. It's about 75 miles west of Dallas. The Texas Parks & Wildlife website describes it as beautiful and rugged. The plan is for this park to offer hiking, camping, fishing, stargazing, and several more outdoor activities to visitors.

This state park will have RV camping, walk-in tent camping, and rugged camping available. You'll also be able to take a boat, as long as it's not a motorboat. You can keep track of the progress by visiting the park's website.
Four More State Parks Are In The Works
According to the information available on the Texas Parks & Wildlife website, there are plans to add 4 more state parks in Texas. Those parks are:
- Albert & Bessie Kronkosky State Park
- Chinati Mountains State Natural Area
- Davis Hill State Park
- Powderhorn State Park
These parks are all in various stages of the planning process and have not begun development yet. They each bring something unique to the table when it comes to scenic views and outdoor activities. It's exciting.
Fingers crossed we see these parks planned, developed, and open sooner rather than later. It would be great to have a few more road trip destinations added to the list.
