The Top Unique Pet In Texas Is One You Aren’t Expecting
Growing up, we've all had a "unique" pet. A unique pet is pretty much anything that doesn't fall into the category of dog or cat. We've all had hamsters, gerbils, birds, snakes, and other kinds of pets. In the Lone Star State, there's one "unique" pet that outdoes them all. Interestingly enough, it's one you probably aren't expecting.
In a recent study done by TrustedHousesitters, they found that the unique pet Texans are getting the most is a rabbit. Rabbits are the most popular unique pet in our state. I've never had a pet rabbit, but I have seen several adorable videos on social media of people and their giant pet rabbits.
Another interesting fact that came out of the study is that Texans own more hedgehogs than any other state. I get it. Hedgehogs are adorable, and I've been tempted numerous times to get one of my own.
Ball pythons also appeared on the list. I remember being a kid and being terrified every time that the "snake kid" in my class had a turn for show and tell. It was weird watching a fellow first grader dangle a mouse over a snake's tank so we could watch it eat. I'm still not a fan.
Before you run out and get one of these "unique" pets, be sure you're aware of what you're getting into. While several of these animals are adorable and will give you lots of great memories, they can also be a lot more work than you're aware of. I bought pet mice one time, and that turned into an absolute nightmare. Do your research beforehand, and make sure the animal is a good fit for your family.
