A Gratitude Attitude: What Are You Most Thankful For This Thanksgiving?
I went to my son's Thanksgiving play this week and they sang a song called Gratitude Attitude. It was cute and I liked that saying. A Gratitude Attitude. I will admit I haven't had a very gratitude attitude lately. This is the time of year where I get super stressed and I feel like I'm losing control. A friend pointed out last night that I am never in control and I responded with, "Well, I love the illusion of control in my life and the illusion isn't there at the moment." I had to take a moment and think, what am I thankful for this year?
For me this has been a crazy year of change. Last year just before Thanksgiving I made the commitment to make a change in my life. I made the commitment to be more healthy and to try to be more happy, and I did. I will admit it took the advice of a friend to jump start that commitment, but I'll tell you more about her in a bit. It has also been a year of change with work when I moved to mornings and made that giant adjustment. A year of ups and a year of downs. A year of rediscovery.
I have met some really great people over the last year and I have met some not so nice people. I have made some new amazing friends and I have lost some friends. I have learned the meaning of true friendship.
This year, through a twist of fate, I met an amazing man. He makes me laugh, makes me feel beautiful and he keeps me on my toes, and he gets me and all my weird quirks. He is always finding new ways to challenge me. Plus, he doesn't hesitate to call it out when my Southern drawl pops out in conversation.
I am thankful for my really awesome best friend. She doesn't hesitate to give me a swift kick in the butt every now and then, but she's always there and has been for over a decade. She's not afraid to tell me the truth even if it might hurt at the time. She's been with me through thick and thin.
I realize that I have a lot to be grateful for and sometimes, I just lose focus of how truly blessed I am.
I have an amazing son that always has a way of saying the right thing at the right time. Sometimes I don't know how someone so young can be so full of adult wisdom.
I have an amazing family who helps me out when I need it and loves me unconditionally.
So today starts a Gratitude Attitude. I am thankful for all the above. I am thankful for what I have, and what I don't have. I am thankful for those people that were in my life that taught me some of the hardest lessons I have had to learn and then left. I am thankful for the little things, like a tiny flower, a simple note, a game of Monopoly with friends, a kiss on the forehead, a smile from a handsome face.
I'm thankful for a cat that knows when I'm having a horrible night and comes and curls up next to me and purrs until I fall asleep.
I'm thankful for 90s alternative rock that is easy to find online when I need to drown out my inner thoughts.
I am thankful for coffee.
I am thankful for a God who loves me.
I am thankful.
Some days will be tough and will make you question every little thing about life, and why it has to be so hard. Some days will be the best days ever and make you think you are on top of the world. You never know, hey, next year could be entirely different, but for today I am thankful for what I have and today I chose:
A Gratitude Attitude!
What are you thankful for?
