Amarillo Tax Increase Has Been Approved
Yesterday, Amarillo City Commissioners approved a proposal to increase taxes. So what does that mean for us?
That means homeowners will have to fit the bill. An increase of 7.89 percent will go into effect. That means if your home is worth $100,000 you will see an increased tax of around $21.
Next question, what will this money be used for? It will all be put back into the city. The money will allow the city to hire 13 new police officers. Eight fire fighters and three animal control officers will also be added. So in hind sight, the increase will be beneficial to the public.
There has been some outraged citizens saying that the increase should have been voted on by the public. Others think that the tax is unfair since it will only effect home owners. What do you think?
