Actors and Actresses in the beginning of their careers have to actually audition for their roles. Here is a selection of audition tapes from several now famous actors and actresses. Please note that some of these clips are PG-13ish and contain curse words. Most of them are noted before the clip.

  • Scarlett Johansson

    Jumanji

This movie was released in 1995 and starred Robin Williams and Bonnie Hunt. Scarlett Johansson auditioned for the role of Judy Shepherd which eventually went to Kirsten Dunst. Not to worry Scarlett, after acting in a few movies in supporting roles, eventually became box office fold after starring with Bill Murray in Lost in Translation.

  • Gerard Butler

    Dracula 2000

Before Gerard Butler stole our hearts in Phantom of the Opera or with his abs in 300, he starred in a vampire movie called Dracula 2000. Here is the audition tape that got him the part. I must admit I prefer the hair in the audition tape over the hair he had in the actual movie.

  • Rachel McAdams

    The Notebook

One of the greatest stories ever is The Notebook. Rachel McAdams was cast in the role of Allie. Here is her audition tape for the role. I do believe that is Ryan Gosling reading with her. The clip does contain curse words that were in the actual movie during this scene.

  • Russell Brand

    Forgetting Sarah Marshall

This was Russell Brand's first big movie break. He played the character Aldous Snow. Here is the audition tape that secured him the job. Mentions sexual situation.

  • Steve Carell

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy
  • Megan Fox

    Transformers

It was the role that shot her to stardom, Mikalea Banes in the first installment of the Transformers franchise. Although she lost the role in the third movie, due to personality conflicts, it was the role that made her famous. Enjoy the audition tape.

  • Seth Rogen

    Freaks and Geeks

Before Seth Rogen became the Seth Rogen we know today, he was an actor on the short lived TV Show, Freaks and Geeks. He played the part of Ken Miller, here is his audition tape.

The following clip contains a profanity word and talks about marijuana.

  • Hugh Laurie

    House

The role of Dr. Gregory House has secured 2 Golden Globes and multiple award nominations for Hugh Laurie. Watch the tape that helped secure his role on House.
