Amarillo has gotten a lot of rain this year.  It has been a great year!  We have been in a drought for so long we don't know how to handle all this awesome rain.  Amarillo received 1 to 2 inches of rain last night and it is causing flooding around the city and with more rain expected tonight you might want to take extra precaution on your drive this morning and throughout the day.  Here are some areas you want to take caution around.

The Greenways playa is beyond capacity, flooding 77th St. and continuing to impact properties in the area.

McDonald Lake (45th & Coulter) is beyond capacity with flood waters reaching the 100-year flood mark.

Lawrence Lake (I-40 & Western Plaza) is beyond capacity, flooding Western Plaza Dr. and portions of Olsen.

Diamond Horseshoe playa (I-27 & Bell) is beyond capacity with minor flood impacts on Meadowgreen Drive.

McCarty playa (58th & Georgia) is beyond capacity, flooding portions of south Georgia St.

Willow Grove (48th & Washington) is at capacity with potential impacts on Pagoda Dr.

Use caution when driving around these areas and avoid any standing water on roadways, Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
