Dasher Diary: 4,300 Deliveries Later, I Finally Hit the “Order” Button
I have been delivering in Amarillo for over three years now. So I feel like I have seen and done a lot in delivering over 4300 meals from that many restaurants. I have been to a lot of homes around Amarillo.
Heck, I may have even delivered food to your house if you use the DoorDash platform. The one thing I don't do very often at all is order food for myself. I sometimes would order for my daughter and have it delivered to her in Dallas.

I have never ordered my own food and had it delivered to me in Amarillo.I still haven't; however, last weekend I finally placed my first order. We were in Dallas to take the granddaughter to Disney on Ice and do a lot of fun family stuff.
Dasher Diary: Stepping into the Customer’s Shoes
There was one night that my granddaughter stayed with her dad. My daughter went to have dinner and catch up with a friend, and I just wanted to relax at the hotel. I needed food. I didn't really want to leave. I didn't want to drive anywhere, so I decided to use DoorDash.
The Platinum Perk: Saving 30% as a Top-Tier Dasher
I mean, I get a perk where I save 30 percent on an order every couple of weeks. It's one of those things for being a Platinum Dasher that I don't really take advantage of. So I did this time. I was looking for somewhere close that I don't get to enjoy in Amarillo.
We already went to Jack in the Box; otherwise, that would have been my first choice. I landed on Razoo's. I have eaten there a few times and really liked it. So I got an appetizer and a meal. No drink because, as a Dasher, I hate having to pick up drinks.
I wanted to see how it worked from the other side. I placed my order with a tip of $5. The restaurant was nearby, so I knew it would get picked up right away, and it did. The Dasher took a photo and sent it when it was picked up.
We had a short conversation, and she was heading to my hotel. It was a pretty fast delivery. The only thing I was surprised about was that the hotel desk called me to let me know that the food was downstairs. I thought it would be delivered to my door.
Safety First: Why the Hotel Lobby Call Surprised Me
I didn't mind, but I had to always deliver to the door. I wish that all hotels enacted that rule. It doesn't seem safe to have to go to the customer's hotel door. Apparently, since I deliver mostly during the day, I didn't know that most hotels prohibit room-to-room deliveries after dark for security reasons.
The Art of the Tip: Why I Chose to Give More After the Drop-off
I tipped more after delivery because my Dasher was friendly and fast. I tipped initially to make sure my food got picked up, and I gave more because she did a good job. My first experience using the service myself was definitely a good one. I even gave her a five-star rating.
