Dasher Diary: The Breakfast Delivery in Amarillo That Defied All Logic

When it comes to delivering food in Amarillo, there are just some things that I have to trust. I know that I can only control what happens on my end. I can pick up the food, and I can deliver it. That is about it.

The Golden Rule of Food Delivery: Trust

I have to trust that the restaurant holds up to their end of the bargain. They have to give me the food. It's even a bonus if it's in a timely manner. That is considered a win. Recently, I was out picking up food when I ran into a fun little mess.

I accepted an order from a breakfast place. I actually had two orders; this one was just the first pickup. As I headed over, I received a message asking if I could make sure she got a specific creamer for her coffee—which seemed simple enough.

The Complicated Request: Creamer and Sealed Bags

I got to the place and waited for an employee to acknowledge me. When they did, I told them the customer's name and requested the cream for their coffee. Then I just waited. It was a bit of a wait, but it always is on a busy weekend morning.

When the employee returned, they informed me they were out of that specific creamer and had substituted another. It was a minor hiccup, but all I could do was pass the message along. I notified the customer, and she was fine with it.

The Great Disappearing Coffee Mystery

I also didn't see the coffee, but the employee told me that it was in one of the bags. Some restaurants have started to do that. The drinks are secured in a bag, and it's good to go. I let the customer know that too.

She replied that it's sketchy sometimes when they do that. I am not arguing that one at all. I dropped off this order and headed to my second drop-off when the customer messaged me that the coffee was, in fact, not in the bag.

Why Customer Understanding Makes All the Difference

How frustrating is that? I had a whole conversation with the employee about the creamer for the coffee. I asked about the coffee. At that point, the restaurant had one primary job—making sure the coffee was actually inside the bag—and they dropped the ball.

Luckily for me, the customer was cool about it. She knew what all went on with that delivery. She knew I asked about it so I did all that I could do. She did say it was ok and wished me a great rest of the weekend.

I responded back, hoping that there was coffee in her future. I hope she got some.
