Think about your list of friends here in Amarillo. Odds are you know several who have moved away but then ended up right back in our city. Why do so many end up back in Amarillo?
It could be because of a job. Maybe it's because of family. Perhaps they come back to go back to school. Sometimes they just can't explain why they came back. Amarillo just has a way of bringing people back.
This happened in my family. My daughter moved away to Dallas. She came back to do some more schooling. It's easier to be here so I can help with her daughter while she works or does schoolwork. She does plan to go back to Dallas in a year or so. It's nice having them here while I can.

Why Community Connection is Amarillo's Secret Weapon
When people talk about why they return, it's rarely about the attractions. It's about the people. Amarillo has a way of making you feel known. It's hard to go anywhere without running into someone you know.
Time Away Brings New Perspective to Amarillo
Not only that, but in Amarillo, neighbors check in. Strangers hold doors. Amarillo is great because we show up when someone needs help. This kind of connection leaves a mark.
Coming back to Amarillo often feels surprisingly natural, no matter how long someone has been gone. The wide-open skies, familiar streets, and even the wind feel comforting. It's a place where memories don't disappear.
Interestingly, people often appreciate Amarillo more the second time around. Time away brings perspective. Things that once felt limiting begin to feel grounding.
There's something about the start of a new year that makes people reflect on where they want to be. For many, Amarillo quietly checks more boxes than they remembered. It may not be flashy, but it has a way of pulling people back, and like it or not, for a lot of folks, that pull feels like home.
