Recently, a study came out that ranked just how stressed cities in America are, and Amarillo found itself sitting at number 114 on the list overall.

I think we ALL feel stressed to a certain extent about different things. One of my biggest stress triggers right now, like many, is money and do I have enough of it to have the things I need.

Right now, the things I WANT are nothing but a pipe dream. I used to be able to buy sports cards whenever I wanted, but these days, I look at them and walk away knowing that $50 or whatever is better served elsewhere.

Ironically, financial stress in Amarillo was our second lowest ranked category which kind of shocked me. The categories in the study were work stress, financial stress, family stress, and health & safety stress.

The one we performed the best in was work stress. We were the seventh least stressed state in the country (for the study) when it came to that. In other words, we're happy with our jobs and don't have the stress of potentially losing them.

I'd say that's a pretty fair assessment as it seems jobs in Amarillo are relatively stable compared to a lot of other places in the country.

Our biggest stressor was in the health and safety category. We ranked out as the 42nd most stressed city when it comes to that. Do I believe it's more the health side of it? No, that doesn't seem to be something that gets brought up.

It's the safety aspect of that category. We have one of the highest crime rates in Texas, and that is something I think we all fear.

Sure, it's not all violent crime that happens, but we do hear a lot about shootings and drugs in Amarillo. These are things that make us all fear for not only us, but our children.

When you live in a place that appears to be riddled with drugs, we think about how easy it would be for our kids to get their hands on them. When it comes to the violent crime, we worry than any of us could be caught up in crossfire or shot for no reason.

Not to mention there seems to be a rash of child predators getting busted in the Amarillo area.

Am I off-base here? Or is this a pretty accurate description of how you feel about stress in your life in Amarillo?

Here's something that should at least make you laugh and let go of some stress, even if for a few minutes.
