We are blessed to have the second-largest canyon in the U.S. in our backyard. Palo Duro Canyon is one of the most beautiful places to visit, but when visitors act like a child drawing on a hallway wall with a Sharpie, it's time to have a conversation about it.

Palo Duro Canyon Rules Visitors Should Know

Luckily, we live in an area where God has given us one of the most beautiful pieces of nature. But like with anything, humans tend to throw caution to the wind and do stupid things. We aren't living in prehistoric times or in caves where people communicated with others in pictures painted on walls. You don't need to carve your name or your social media handle into rocks, trees, tables, or even the cave walls.

Palo Duro Canyon isn't Cadillac Ranch or the Bug Ranch. They don’t invite you to grab a can of spray paint and go to town.

PDC is a place meant to be cherished. It's there to hike, look at, enjoy a picnic with family, and to explore. It's not your personal canvas to take a knife or a rock or spray paint to leave, "Karen was here." Truthfully, no one cares that Karen was there or @bigboiblu hiked that trail.

Why Leave No Trace Matters At Palo Duro Canyon

PDC also shared in November 2025, asking visitors not to spray paint or destroy rock formations. They once again said, "Leave No Trace."

Friendly reminder: marking rocks, etching names, and leaving dog poop bags (even filled!) all go against Leave No Trace principles we follow here in the park—and pretty much any public space. Let’s keep it wild, clean, and naturally awesome for everyone.

Graffiti And Rock Carving Problems At Palo Duro Canyon

PDC also shared in November 2025 that it would not spray paint or destroy rock formations. C'mon, that should be common sense.

This is a place to visit, not destroy. It's been here for thousands of years; let's not completely trash it and ruin it for generations to come. Again, no one will care that "Karen was here"  or  "C+L = Love" in 1,000 years. Trust me, there will be plenty of other ways we’ll know they were here

How To Protect Palo Duro Canyon While Visiting

If you want to leave a lasting note, sign the guest book in the Visitor Center. Take a picture of yourself in front of a cool rock formation, heck, even shoot a video and post it to TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube. Increase your following with the beauty, instead of making people shake their heads thinking, “what kind of dumbbutt carves into a rock or tree or spray paints a canyon?"
The beauty is in nature, not your vandalism.

The Wonders of Palo Duro Canyon in the Texas Panhandle

Often called the Grand Canyon of Texas, it's easy to feel small when surrounded by the towering land. Palo Duro offers stellar hiking and biking, camping, and even cabins to plan more of a family or lovers getaway. Explore it on foot, on wheels, on horses, etc. Cap off the day with an authentic taqueria meal in Amarillo, if you can stand the smell. They don't call it "Cow Town" for nothing.

This Huge Cabin In Palo Duro Canyon Is Top-Notch Glamping

This cabin is (to us) the definition of "glamorous camping".

This three bedroom rental is tucked away in the Palo Duro Canyon. It's a cabin with serious room, meaning it can fit up to eight guests--a girls trip, family vacation, or any bigger group.

The cabin is available for booking through glampinghub.com and the description along with the provided photos is enough to catch the eye of anyone ready to get out of town and away from it all.....without having to go very far.

It's a beautiful place with woodwork throughout, full amenities, and all the mandatory electornics (and WiFi!). If a group of people were to split the cost of their stay between each other, it is without a doubt one of the most budget-friendly options for vacations.

The four day minimum stay required to make a booking is the only drawback to this diamond in the rough of a rental property--but it's nothing a little planning ahead and vacation time can't remedy.
