Unveiling the Mysteries: Amarillo’s Wonderland Park’s Unexpected North Pole Connection
One of the great things about Amarillo is the city and area are filled with family entertainment. Although, you'll hear many people say, "There's nothing to do in Amarillo," that's not the case. You'll find many fun activities in the area.
One of those fun family activities is Wonderland Park. Wonderland Park first opened in Amarillo as Kiddie Land in 1951. It has been the center of amusement park fun for generations. Wonderland has had some unique features and rides over the years. However, one of those features, which was located in the park decades ago resides at the North Pole in Santa.
Back in the day Wonderland Park has an interesting feature. They had a Wurlitzer that entertained kids and adults alike with a melodious tune during their visit to the amusement park. It was a cool feature inside the park. Its reign in the park lasted over 20 years but started a new journey to a very special place.
The Wurlitzer Military Band Organ
This Wurlitzer was made in 1907 and cost $775 ($25,902.73 in today's dollars). It was located in Wonderland Park as a part of the carousel from 1958 - 1980. Then it was moved to Pennywhistle Park in Dallas from 1980 - 1995. After Dallas, it was restored and moved to The North Pole.
It's a great piece of history and it is located in a very happy place.
The North Pole
The North Pole is a Christmas-themed amusement park located just before the entrance to Pike's Peak in Colorado Springs, CO.
This amusement park features all Christmas-themed rides, shops, and even an entertaining elf named Elmer. Don't worry Santa Claus is there to greet the kids, and even hear their Christmas wishlists, yes even in July.
If you're looking for a fun trip that includes a visit to the North Pole and a chance to see Santa and a piece of Wonderland history, then you'll want to visit Colorado Springs.
