Local Amarillo Walmart Locations Team Up To Help Kids

Next time you shop at your favorite Walmart location or Sam's Club here in Amarillo, think about the kids. Starting June 22, the annual Children's Miracle Network Hospitals fundraising campaign returns to the High Plains Region. When you checkout, you can give a $1 donation, or more if you wish, to support sick kids right here in the Texas panhandle. If you are now shopping online, you may also make a donation when purchasing online for grocery pick up.

Walmart and Sam’s Club associates across eighteen locations will hold various in-store fundraising activities and ask customers and members at the register to help kids live better. Every dollar raised through the campaign stays local to help sick or injured children. The funds provide support for family grants to assist with medical bills, doctor visits, prescriptions or home medical needs. Funds are also used to support the Child Life programs at BSA and Northwest Texas Hospitals.

This year, Reeve Melugin, a local Miracle Child is featured on local campaign signage in the stores. Reeve was diagnosed with Leukemia in October of 2017.

“No parent ever wants to receive that type of news about their child. After the initial shock of the diagnosis wore off, we then began worrying about how we were going to pay for his cancer treatment. Though we had insurance we knew it would still be tough. Thankfully we were directed to Children’s Miracle Network. When we were worried about the future, CMN stepped in to help us find our footing. Without CMN, we wouldn’t be where we are today.”

Walmart and Sam's Club funds impact each of the 170 Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, which treat one in 10 children across North America. Hospitals use the funds based on what they need most — typically providing lifesaving equipment and research, supporting top therapy programs and providing charitable care.
