We are told to look whomever you are talking to in the eye. It's a great way to start off on a good foot in an interview. A great way to show interest on a date.

It's just good to show respect that way. A way to show you are really listening. There are some people that doing just that makes them feel nervous. It even makes them feel uncomfortable.

If looking someone in the eye is so important than what do you do? You don't want to seem disinterested in the job, date or friend. That is for sure.

Here is an easy trick for you to try. Just stare at their mouth, nose or even their forehead instead.

There was a new study in "Perception" journal and it found that people really can't tell where you are looking if you look near their eyes. So that can make those conversations a ton easier. It looks like you are making eye contact when you really are not.

The researcher did a ton of tests. Some where they are looking the other half of the conversation straight in the eye and some when they were staring elsewhere in the face.

The takeaway is that the person in the conversation could not tell the difference. They rated the conversations equally enjoyable. It didn't matter. So if it happens you are one of those that feel more comfortable staring at someone's forehead or nose during a conversation well then go for it.

They won't be able to tell the difference and you just might get the job or that second date.
