Parent’s Worst Nightmare, 2-Year-Old Girl Drowns at Lake Meredith
One of the worst nightmares imaginable happened to a family over the weekend at Lake Meredith.
A 2-year-old child as been reported as deceased following a water rescue over the weekend in Lake Meredith. It's every parent's worst nightmare; all it took was turning their heads for one second and poof, the child went missing.
Authorities were immediately called out for assistance in locating the child--and unfortunately, the call shifted from a search to a medical emergency.
When the child was located, authorities administered CPR while emergency services transported to to Golden Plains Community Hospital.
In a wild twist of events, as emergency crews were trying to reach the site where the girl was, a man ran into the emergency vehicle. The man was arrested for public intoxication, interfering with public duties, duty on striking an unattended vehicle, driving while license invalid, and failure to identify. The man was released on a $7,500 bond.
This death was ruled accidental.
The family of this little girl just lived their worst nightmare. Kids can disappear in the blink of an eye. We've all had that moment where we turn our head for just a second and our child magically disappears. It happens. Have some grace when it comes to this family and please leave the finger pointing and whys out of this heartache.
This is one of those situations that will shake the Fritch community for years to come.
Parents, please keep in mind if you are going to be near a body of water with your small children, keep them in their life-saving devices at all times. If you are introducing your child to water at a very early age, please note that several places offer infant and toddler swimming lessons.
