It's no secret that Amarillo has a fascination with murals. There's a ton of them all over the city. From pizza joints to corporate offices, it seems like everyone is itching to get one at some point.

Have you taken time to notice all of the art along Polk Street in downtown Amarillo?

There's A Lot More Than I Expected

Originally, I was going to go downtown and just snap photos of as many murals as I could find. It didn't take long for me to realize that I didn't have that kind of time.

There's a lot of it.

Polk Street alone is home to several murals and pieces of art. I spent about 30 minutes walking from 10th down to 5th, and I still think I barely even scratched the surface.

Murals, Murals, And More Murals

Most of what I saw was the murals. They're everywhere. Some of them are tucked away from the road, so you wind up walking into an alley or out of the way parking lot to find them.

It's more than just entries from the Hoodoo Mural Festival too. There are several works from different groups and artists on display.

The Works Make The Trip Downtown Way More Interesting

I remember a time when there was a mural every few feet downtown. A lot of work has been done to make the time you spend down there a little bit more...appealing; if that's even the right word.

Something about finding these works, nestled among the historic buildings on Polk, made the walk seem like so much more than just aimless wondering down a city street.

Check out these photos of the art you can find tucked away, mostly, on Polk.
