Programs That Help Decrease Pet Shelter Population In Amarillo
Amarillo has a huge pet population and because of that our shelters at times are busting at the seams with animals. Animals that have been abandoned, surrendered or animals that have just gotten lost. We as citizens have to do better and be more responsible with our animals.
If we chose to own pets then we must take responsibility of our pets and take care of them and love them and keep them til they cross the rainbow bridge.
We have to be diligent about spaying and neutering our pets and making sure they are vaccinated and microchipped. A microchip is one of the most important things to have for your pet in case they get out of your yard or home and become lost or even stolen. That microchip can bring them home again.
Here's a few programs available through the Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare as well as the Amarillo-Panhandle Humane Society.
If you are wanting to save one of these amazing animals adoption fees at the shelter are $35 for dogs and $25 for cats. These prices include spay or neuter, vaccinations and microchip. Please note some adoption fees do vary.
If your animals ends up at the shelter there is an option you can use for reclaiming them, it is called the Adoption Option. For $55 for dogs and $45 for cats you get your animal back spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. In most of the time the fines and fees and waived. If you are worried about the fines and fees, this is the route to go to save your furry friend.
The Amarillo Panhandle Humane Society has a low cost spay or neuter if you haven't gotten this done for your fur baby because of cost. To have your pet neutered it is $50 and to have your pet spayed it is $75, this includes pain shot, rabies vaccination and microchip.
If you find your neighborhood being overrun by cats that don't seem to have homes. Then you can help control the population with the Amarillo Panhandle Humane Society's Trap Neuter Return (TNR) program. You can have these cats spayed or neutered for just $25 each.
