Last night I received an email from the Amarillo Police Department stating that the eastbound lanes of 34th from Soncy to Brennan Ave. would be closed until 9am on Tuesday, due to repair of pot holes.

The reasoning behind the closure of this road was because the melting ice had caused pot holes on this newly fixed road.

UPDATE: 1/26

The City plans to have the eastbound lanes on 34th from Soncy to Brennan closed for up to two weeks.

From the City of Amarillo:

“The City and the contractor are working together to expedite the repair process and to minimize the amount of time the eastbound lane will need to be closed,” says Public Works Director Michael Rice. “Motorists can expect repairs to take at least two weeks, weather permitting, so we urge motorists to find alternate routes.”

I have driven down this road many times, since they finished it and started construction on the other side of 34th.  I have hit many a pot hole even before the snow.  I'm sure the snow has made it much worse.  I haven't driven on the road since the snowstorm, but it was bad before the snowstorm.

I remember commenting to a co-worker as we drove down the eastbound lanes of 34th, "Didn't they redo this road?"  Why is there so many pot holes?

It was bad then.

So does this mean that the construction that was done on this road wasn't up to par?  Did tax payer money go to pay for this, and will it to go to have it redone or will the construction company fix it at their cost? Will the other side deteriorate as quickly?

Maybe the road wasn't completely finished?  I don't know, maybe they do the final repairs once both sides have been completed?

All this is just my personal thoughts, but I want to know what you think about the construction on 34th.

Again, just a thought, sometimes the lowest bid isn't always the best route to take.

However, with all this said, please remember to find an alternate route today through tomorrow at 9am, since the eastbound lanes on 34th from Soncy to Brennan will be closed.
