During the seemingly never ending pandemic 2020 Amazon Prime has been breaking record sales. Walmart has decided to take on Amazon with their similarly based program called Walmart +.

Walmart says it's beefing up its e-commerce membership program, which competes with Amazon Prime, to include more items and more perks, like shipping as fast as same day for orders of at least $35 and a cashier less checkout feature in the Walmart app. The program, previously called Delivery Unlimited and focused on groceries, will be renamed Walmart Plus and add many items you'd find in a Walmart store, including toys, electronics and household essentials from aspirin to ziti.

The company said current delivery unlimited customers will be changed over to the new program, which will have the same pricing at $98 a year or $12.95 a month. Walmart Plus, which was expected to launch earlier this year, will be available in Amarillo on Sept. 15.

"We've designed this program as the ultimate life hack," Janey Whiteside, Walmart's chief customer officer, said during a press call Monday.

"We're not launching Walmart Plus with the intent to compete with anything else," Whiteside said when asked about Prime. "We're launching it to meet the needs of our customers."

Also coming Walmart will offer Scan & Go which H-E-B in San Antonio has had great success with. You can scan items with your phone in the app and pay for them using Walmart Pay or a stored credit/debit card, allowing you to skip the checkout line. This is a good thing.
