Why Fireworks May Be Hard to Get in Amarillo This Year
Forth of July in Amarillo means cookouts, family, celebrating our freedom and of course...fireworks! However, popping fireworks this year may be a little difficult.
The Potter County Commissioners Court signed an order on 6/11/18 prohibiting certain fireworks in the county. Effective immediately, no one can sell, ignite, use, or posses in any way the type of fireworks called "skyrockets with sticks" or "missiles with fins".
If you are caught with these type of fireworks you will be charged with a Class C Misdemeanor. Which can result in up to one year in jail or a $4,000 fine.
Not only are these new laws in effect, but both Potter and Randall county are both currently under a burn ban. With rain in the forecast, this could be lifted by Fourth of July weekend.
Firework stands are set to open across the City next week. To keep up to date with the burn bans you can go to amarillo.gov/home
