Amarillo High Has An Addams Family Connection

There is no doubt the Addams Family is one of the best macabre comedy series of all time. The series started off as an interesting look at family from New Yorker cartoonist Charles Addams and has since spun off a few different TV series, a movie franchise and most recently a cartoon series that has graced Netflix. But did you know a former Amarillo High Sandie was a huge face of the franchise?

Morticia Adams was a Sandie

Yep that's right, Now she didn't roam the halls of the current campus but rather the 12th and Polk street campus graduating in 1947. Interestingly enough she actually isn't a member of the Sandie Hall Of Fame. While she was a Sandie she did excel at speech and debate and won at the Tri State Declamation. She was a frequent actor in school plays while on campus.

Her Amarillo Roots Run Deep

Carolyn Sue Jones was born in Amarillo April 28, 1933 to Chloe Southern and Julius Jones. Julius was out of the picture early on in the young girl's life and Carolyn's mother found herself, Carolyn and her younger sister moving back in with her grandparents. Carolyn had issues with her lungs growing up too. A bit of a "misfit" in her own words. She ultimately graduated from Amarillo High in 1947 and thanks to some help from her Grandfather she found her way to the west coast where she studied at the Pasadena Playhouse.

From there she eventually was spotted by a talent scout from Paramount Pictures she quickly found herself in her first movie The Turning Point in 1953. She has had many roles including appearances in Wagon Train, Alfred Hitchcock Presents and even a scene with Elvis in King Creole. It was 1964 that she donned the now famous charcoal black wig and introduced us to Morticia Adams.

She continued to work until her early death at age 50 in 1983 from Cancer. Just goes,  You never know who you're walking the halls with!
