The study looked at 185 small U.S. metros. Of the 185 small metros analyzed, Amarillo landed in the top 30 thanks mostly to affordability and availability.

Amarillo ranked 27th out of all small metros studied. One of the big reasons is the number of starter homes. Yellow City has no shortage of starter homes in the area.
What Counts as a Starter Home?
A starter home is a home that has three bedrooms or fewer. According to the study, around three-quarters of the homes in Amarillo are starter-sized. That could be changing, though.

The study points out that construction on new starter-sized homes is way down, while the construction of homes with four or more bedrooms has exploded in recent years.
What This Means for First-Time Buyers
