I've written several times about how much I love spending time in the canyon. Palo Duro Canyon State Park is one of my favorite spots in the panhandle. This month, Texas State Parks are celebrating 100 years, and they're having a massive party down in the canyon.

Prairie Palooza 2023 In Palo Duro Canyon

Texas State Parks turning 100 years old is a huge occasion. Over that time, Texas State Parks has gone from a small movement in 1923, to having over 89 parks and over 630,000 acres in its care.

Part of that is Palo Duro Canyon, and on September 16 there is going to be a big all day long party in the canyon to celebrate.

Here's some of what's on the menu for the day:

There will be other activities throughout the day. You can find out more information by following this link.

Admission Will Be Free To Palo Duro Canyon State Park On Sep 16

This is a really nice added bonus to all of the festivities being planned for that day. While the cost of admission really isn't that bad in the first place, it's one less reason you have for saying you don't want to go.

If you've never spent time down in the canyon, this would be a perfect day to go and spend some time.

Happy 100 to Texas State Parks!
