COVID Cases In Amarillo Down On 2 Year Anniversary
Time flies when you're having...
Wait, that doesn't really apply here does it?
It's been two years since the first COVID-19 case was reported in Amarillo. We've been through some serious up's and down's since then.
Two years ago, we were locked down in our homes. All the businesses and offices had closed their doors and said, "sorry, we're closed". Getting food from restaurants that opened up for takeout became "the thing" because it was the only semblance of normal life we could find.
Grocery stores were down to the bare minimum, people clamoring to get in the doors to grab whatever they could cook at home. Some businesses never got a chance to open their doors back up.
We've been through variant after variant it seems, but things ARE getting better.
Amarillo health officials reported that the hospitalization rate is officially under 2%, and that's a big deal. It wasn't long ago that we had hospitals starting to overflow with COVID cases again, so to see it drop down below that number is encouraging.
We only saw six new cases per day reported this week and only 44 total COVID cases in Amarillo this week.
The numbers over the two year period are staggering, and it goes to show you just how far we've come. There have been a total of 74,017 cases reported over the two years since our first one. Unfortunately, we lost 1,189 of those cases to the virus.
Now is not the time to let up! COVID is something that is going to be around for a long time, and pretty much forever at this point. Continue to take care of yourself and those around you. It's still a very real thing.
