Here Is Why The Sears Closing Sucks For Amarilloians
Sears has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. It's sad to think that the era of Sears might finally be at an end.
Of course the worst part of all of this is for the employees. They received news during the holiday season that it was finally going to be over. It's a horrible way to go into the new year.
We took a trip to Sears to remember the "good ol' days," and say goodbye. Plus, everything is on sale right now, in a big way.
Sears closing really does suck though, sales aside. The reason may not be because we're all avid customers. Thanks to Wal-Mart, Amazon, and a host of other options, Sears and stores like it have been left behind by the future of how we as consumers...consume.
The reason it sucks is more nostalgic. When I was a kid, it was where we went shopping for clothes at the beginning of the school year. I would be distracted by TVs and a small inventory of video games and accessories while my mother tried her hardest to make sure I had clothes for school.
When I hit adult life, my first grill for my first home came from a Sears. My microwave after my divorce came from a Sears.
At least for myself, and I suspect maybe for many others, Sears has been a part of life for a long time. While it may not have been a kind of "one-stop-shop" like Wal-Mart, it was the first place that came to mind when I needed an appliance, a lawnmower, a mattress, or a grill.
Goodbye Sears. We'll miss you. Thank you for being a part of many big moments in my life.
