Don Harrington Discovery Center 50th Anniversary 2026

It seems like this summer is just whirling past us at lightning-fast speed in Amarillo. I know, that seems to happen every year. We are already hearing about Back to School. The supply lists are out. The calendars are ready. Registration is happening.

Soon, we will be knee deep in forms to sign. The Friday Night lights will be fully shining. We will already be wishing for our next break. Luckily, that is not long after school starts. Labor Day weekend will be here before you know it.

Now is the time to start making those last days of summer plans. What better way to celebrate than with a tradition making its way back to our city?

Celebrating Fifty Years of the Discovery Center

Marking a decade-long absence, the return of the Discover! festival aligns perfectly with the center's 50th anniversary. It just seems fitting. That is exactly what is happening. The Don Harrington Discovery Center made the announcement recently.

Ten Years Later: The Return of a Panhandle Tradition

As DHDC celebrates its 50th year, join in on the return of a once long-standing Texas Panhandle tradition! After 10 long years, the Discover! festival is back and better than ever. Returning to DHDC for Labor Day weekend alongside The Amarillo Symphony, be prepared for a day full of music, vendors, and excitement!

The Amarillo Symphony and Drone Show Finale

The evening will culminate in a dazzling drone show finale choreographed to live music. General admission tickets to the event will go on sale soon. This has been a tradition that we were sad to see leave, but luckily, this is the year to bring it back.

As you map out your Labor Day weekend, be sure to set aside September 5th for Discover! 5.0. The summer of 2026 will definitely be one to remember. A full day of fun as the Discovery Center helps us end a summer to remember.
