We are used to driving around the outskirts of Amarillo near the Fourth of July and seeing the fireworks stands open. We know everyone is getting ready to celebrate our independence. It's summer and hot outside. Yes, I know it's still been pretty hot but this is October.

There has been more than one person I have seen online asking about fireworks stands here in October. They are wondering why they have been seeing so many open when it's October. No, the weather has nothing to do with it.

Why Are Firework Stands Open in Amarillo?

According to the Texas Department of Insurance, fireworks sales can be going on right now because sales are permitted:

Beginning five days before the first day of Diwali and ending at midnight on the last day of Diwali.

Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights, with variations celebrated in other Indian religions. So since fireworks can be sold beginning five days before and Diwali this year is from October 29th - November 1st. Fireworks can be sold.

Not all firework stands are open but there are some that decided to try to take advantage of the opportunity to sell some fireworks. You can't blame them at all.

So as you see fireworks stands open they are celebrating a lot of things. There is Diwali, Halloween, Day of the Dead, and maybe they are celebrating the World Series or even the great weather we have been having.

Go out and support these local places that are there to offer sales of fireworks for whoever wants or needs them. Please remember to set them off outside the city limits and not disturb your neighbors. All of the firework rules still apply.
