Curious Sightings: Mysterious Objects Spotted in Amarillo’s Sky
You never know what you will experience when you walk out of your house in Amarillo.
There have been so many storage things happening lately you begin to wonder if you are in an alternate universe. Recently there was a strange light in the night sky.
Yesterday, my family and I were working in our front yard putting up Halloween decorations, and this strange thing was floating in the air.
At first, I thought it might be a weather balloon, but when is a weather balloon bright yellow with writing? My fella thought it was a hot air balloon, but it was too small to be a hot air balloon. My son thought it was an alien invasion, and another family member thought it was time to brace ourselves for an attack.
The closest guess? It wasn't a weather balloon, nor aliens, and no we're not under attack. It was similar to a hot air balloon, it was a gas balloon.
The Albuquerque International Balloon Festival is going on now through October 15th, and part of the balloon festival is a race.
The race is the 66th Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennett.
This race is a world long-distance gas balloon race.
What's the difference between a hot air balloon and a gas balloon?

Neither the fabric used to manufacture the envelope is the same nor there is need to carry burners or bottles of gas.
You can track the race here. The balloons came through Amarillo on Sunday afternoon.
Good luck to all the racers.
