Amarillo’s Beloved Park Gets a Fresh Start with New Playground Surface
John Ward Memorial Park, or Medi Park as many still call it, is a hot spot in town for families. It offers several amenities and is a perfect place to gather with loved ones on the weekend.
Recently, it was announced that the playground would be closed for resurfacing. Fortunately, it seems that the recent weather hasn't been too problematic. Today, Amarillo Parks and Recreation announced some good news that many of us have been waiting for.

The resurfacing project at Medi/John Ward Memorial Park playground has finally been completed. Once again, you can take your kids to the playground and let them run wild.
Why the Playground Was Closed
Before the resurfacing project, the playground was in desperate need of some attention. The surface was ripped in places, and there were spots where it looked like even the padding had been ripped up.

Now, the playground looks as good as new. Amarillo Parks and Rec shared photos of the completed surface on social media. It honestly looks fantastic.
Planning a Full Day at the Park
Now that the playground is completed, we can all get back to our weekends at the park. Start the morning on the playground, head to the Discovery Center, cool off at the splashpad, and top it all off with a walk around the park.
You can commune with the ducks, do a little fishing, and hang out on the fishing dock. Amarillo's Botanical Gardens are also nearby if you're looking for something calming.
The playground being open again is great news that I know my kids will be excited about. Hats off to the crew for getting the work done quickly.
