Memorial Day is a day set aside for honoring and remembering the courageous people who have died while serving in the U.S. armed forces. It falls on the last Monday of May, and for most of us, it wraps up a three-day weekend.

In Amarillo, Texas, the City has announced which offices will be closed on Memorial Day and which services will change their usual operations.

What Is Closed In Amarillo, Texas, For Memorial Day

There is a good chance you will need to change up your routine or plans on Memorial Day in Amarillo. Especially if you have any business to take care of with the City. Here's what you need to know:

  • City Hall - Closed
  • Amarillo Municipal Court - Closed (Payments can be made via the Municipal Court website)
  • Amarillo Library Locations - Closed (All of them)
  • Amarillo City Transit - Not running on Memorial Day
  • Landfill - Closed
  • Brush Sites - Closed

Just plan on taking Monday to honor those who gave their lives in service of their country.

What You Need To Know About Trash Collection In Amarillo On Memorial Day

Memorial Day is also going to affect when your trash gets picked up in Amarillo. Monday's residential routes will run on Tuesday. Tuesday's service will run on Wednesday. Commercial routes won't be available on Monday, either. All of them will run on Tuesday.

For those of us lucky enough to have those flashy, cool, swank push carts, all this means is that we need to wait a day before we go to park our carts by the curb.

Curbside service will not be available on Monday. Curbside collection will resume on Tuesday. So, if you have any big, bulky items you need to have dragged off, it will have to wait until the day after Memorial Day.

If you love golfing, Ross Rogers and Comanche Trail golf complexes will be open and operating with their regular hours.
