May in Amarillo, Texas, is a very busy, hectic, and beautiful month. Foliage is in bloom, the school year is ending, and animals keep getting out of their pens. The Potter County Sheriff's Office Facebook page has been busy with animals.

For whatever reason, in the spring, it seems that reports of animals getting out ramp up. Maybe they're just trying to get out and see if the grass is really greener "over there."

Animals To Keep An Eye Out For In Spring In Amarillo, Texas

So far this month, the Potter County Sheriff's Office has taken to Facebook three separate times to ask for help in locating the owners of animals that have gotten out.

In May, we've seen alerts regarding:

  • a horse
  • a pig
  • two goats

If you're out and about in Amarillo, keep your eyes open. There's no telling what you might see wandering around.

Goats tend to be an annual problem. It seems like we always see reports of goats getting loose and getting into all kinds of shenanigans.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to double-check pens, fences, and gates. The last thing you want is something tragic to happen to your animals.

There was a time when kangaroos kept getting out in Amarillo. One time, a kangaroo shut down traffic on I-40. On a completely separate occasion, a kangaroo unfortunately met a tragic end on I-40.

Fortunately, none of the animals the Potter County Sheriff's Office has posted about this month have been injured. Hopefully it stays that way.
