So why would the Federal Trade Commision sue Skechers for that much money?  Well according to Skechers, the shape-up shoes were supposed to tone your rear-end and help people lose weight which it did not.

According to CNN:

Skechers agreed to pay a hefty $40 million fine to settle charges the California-based company deceived consumers by making "unfounded claims that Shape-ups would help people lose weight, and strengthen and tone their buttocks, legs and abdominal muscles."

I'll be honest with you, I actually went and looked at these shoes.  I even tried a pair on but I just couldn't force myself to pay $100+ for a pair of shoes.  Even magic shoes.
