Careful How You Smell, You May Be Sending the Wrong Message — Health Check
Hygiene isn’t the only thing you have to worry about when it comes to how you smell. Your unique odors may be giving away what your personality is like, too.
Researchers at the University of Wroclaw, Poland conducted a study in which 30 men and 30 women were given personality tests and asked to forego typically smelly stuff like cologne and scented soap, as well as odoriferous foods like garlic and onions. Then those people slept in the same t-shirts for three consecutive nights.
Afterwards, another group of subjects was asked to smell those shirts and predict if the wearers were anxious, outgoing or dominant people. While they weren’t always right, they were just as precise as test subjects who actually watched videos of people and predicted their personalities from that.
Bottom line? Not only do we give off personality clues when we sweat, but others are able make fairly accurate judgments about us based on what we smell like. So go easy on that Axe Body Spray… please.
