Staycation in Amarillo? Here’s What The Locals Actually Do
When it comes to planning a vacation, sometimes you just don't want the hassle of planning a major excursion. The simpler things can be, the better. This is why staycations are so popular.
If you're thinking of taking a staycation in Amarillo, Texas, you might think that there isn't much to do. Of course, you'd be wrong. You just have to know where to look to find what you're looking for.
One of my favorite things to do is hang out on 6th Street. It's on Historic Route 66, and it has a variety of options for keeping you entertained on your staycation.
Things to Do on 6th Street
There is a variety of antique shops that are fun to browse. The most famous one is The Nat. Not only is it pretty big, but legend has it that the place is haunted. I can't confirm how haunted the place is, but I've bought a lot of stuff there over the years.

Another one of my favorite features of 6th Street is the amount of live music you can find. It almost doesn't matter what day of the week you go down there, you're going to find a band playing somewhere.
Kid-Friendly Staycation Spots
If you have kids, there are several ways to spend a day during your staycation. You can head to the Discovery Center, Cinergy, or Mr. Gatti's.

All three places have several options to keep the kids entertained, and you won't be bored out of your skull either. You can chill with dinosaurs while the kids play outside at the Discovery Center, or beat your kids at skeeball at Cinergy and Mr. Gatti's.
