It seems like it's been forever since the Tascosa Drive-In theater was open in Amarillo, Texas. After the announcement of their closing, there was months of silence. Recently, it was announced that a new owner was taking the helm, and the drive-in would live on. Their grand reopening is coming up, and here's what you need to know before you go.

When Is Tascosa Drive-In In Amarillo Reopening?

The grand reopening of Tascosa Drive-In is this weekend! It kicks off on Friday, July 26, and lasts through Sunday, July 28. They will be showing a double feature, and their choices almost couldn't be better.  Deadpool & Wolverine and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes are showing at the drive-in for the grand reopening. Both of these movies are perfect drive-in choices.

One thing that hasn't changed is the hours the drive-in will be open. Gates open at 7 PM, and the first movie kicks off at dark. They plan on being open every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

What To Expect At The Grand Reopening Of Tascosa Drive-In

Ticket prices aren't bad at all. Adults are $9, kids 10 and under are $5, and kids 4 and under get in for free. These prices don't include tax. In a social media post, they say that these prices may change in the future to help make giving change faster. They do accept cash and credit cards, with a discount for cash purchases.

At this time there is no carload pricing. This is something they say they're still discussing and trying to work out. They also don't have the ability for you to "pre-buy" your tickets. Once again, this is something that's being discussed. They will have food available for purchase and have mentioned they will have a changing menu from time to time.

Speaking of food, they're not allowing any outside food or drink. They point out in the same social media post that concessions are where they really make their money, and they need to do that to keep the drive-in open. They do say that if you're found bringing in food and drinks, you may be asked to leave without a refund.

For now, the best way to keep up with what's happening at the drive-in is their Facebook page. A new website is in the works, and they've even mentioned the possibility of having a text club in the future to help keep everyone up to speed with what's happening at the drive-in.

Excitement For Tascosa Drive-In's Grand Reopening Weekend

It can't be overstated how exciting it is for the drive-in to be back. Tascosa Drive-In is the last drive-in standing from an era when Amarillo had several. It's an iconic part of our history.

It sounds like the new owners are going to be doing everything they can to make going to the drive-in a great experience. They're looking at doing things like concerts, retro movie nights, theme nights, and other types of events in the future. It's exciting.

Glad to have you back, Tascosa Drive-In. May the drive-in never die!
