Third Round Of COVID Vaccine Hitting Amarillo. Shots On Wednesday

With the city going back to red and cases on the rise, COVID is once again front and center in Amarillo.

The vaccine is a hot topic, and now a third dose of it is being made available in the city.

According to a press release put out by the City of Amarillo, APHD will begin to offer up third doses of the vaccine from 9am to 5pm this Wednesday. You do not need to schedule an appointment for these shots, it's all on a walk-in basis.

The shots will be administered at the building next to the APHD main building, found at 850 Martin Rd.

Now the third shot isn't a mandatory shot in order to stay up on your vaccine. The CDC is actually recommending the shot for people who are truly immunocompromised. For example, those receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancer of the blood, organ transplant recipients, stem cell transplant patients and those taking meds to suppress the immune system.

Also included in the recommendation for the third shot are those with any kind of moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency. Examples of this include Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome, DiGeorge syndrome, etc.

If you aren't sure whether or not you should get this third dose, talk to your doctor and see if it's something they recommend. With the Delta variant out there, the vaccine doses you have already received may not cover you well enough if you are immunocompromised.
