1973 - Baseball died on this day: Owners of American League teams voted to adopt the DESIGNATED HITTER RULE on a trial basis. As you know . . . that "trial" is still going.

1974 - "LOVE, AMERICAN STYLE" AND "ROOM 222" LAST AIRED ON ABC!!!

1977 - The world was stunned to learn that KEITH RICHARDS had been convicted of cocaine possession and fined $1,300!!!

1992 - "ADDAMS GROOVE" BY MC HAMMER PEAKED AT #7 ON THE POP SINGLES CHART!!!

1994 - SONNY BONO announced he was running for Congress on the Republican ticket. After winning his seat in the U.S. House, he represented Palm Springs, California . . . until he skied into a tree and died on January 5th, 1998.

1996 - Congressman SONNY BONO needed 11 stitches to close a gash on his face after colliding with another skier near Big Bear Lake, California. Two years later, on January 5th, 1998, he skied into a tree and died.

2000 - CARLTON FISK and TONY PEREZ were elected to the BASEBALL HALL OF FAME.

2000 - PEDOPHILE GARY GLITTER was released from prison in Britain after serving half of a four-month sentence on child pornography charges.

2006 - EMINEM and his ex-wife, KIM MATHERS, applied for a marriage license in Michigan and they remarried three days later. Their second marriage lasted a WHOLE 11 weeks before he filed for divorce. The latest divorce was finalized in 2006.

2009 - HEATH LEDGER won Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globes, for playing the Joker in "The Dark Knight". He also won an Oscar for it a month later.

2010 - New tombs were discovered near THE GREAT PYRAMIDS. These tombs support the theory that Egypt's pyramids were built by paid workers, not slaves.
